Hiwot Hailu

Development Activist




Hiwot Hailu is a young development activist from Ethiopia.  As her first work experience, she joined the United Nations Environment Program and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa as a consultant. She later worked for different international organizations directly and indirectly related to natural resources management and ecosystem conservation. She also played a major role in achieving the objectives of organizations working on the diversification of livelihoods of the rural communities on sustainable agriculture and ecosystem rehabilitation programs. Currently, Ms. Hailu is working for the Rainforest Alliance and the Sustainable Agriculture Network as a consultant and auditor. She graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Botanical Science from Addis Ababa University in 2011 and with a Bachelor of Education Degree in Biology from Haramaya University in 2005. She was selected at a participant for the 2013 Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program at the University of California, Berkeley.
