NEFIN Global Climate Change Program (Nepal)
Ms. Pasang Dolma Sherpa serves the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) as the National Coordinator of the Climate Change REDD Program in Nepal since June 2009. Ms. Sherpa has been working in the field of livelihood programs, social entrepreneurs, community radios and education since 2004 after the completion of her Masters in Arts (2003) and Master in Philosophy in Development Studies (2012). Ms. Sherpa has already contributed her more than 20 articles in both national and international magazines, journals and books as an author since 2005. She is also one of the promoters among 100 professional women in Nepal for establishing Mahila Sahayatra, Micro Bank for the promotion of women social entrepreneurs for sustainable development in Nepal. Ms Sherpa is focal person of the indigenous peoples of Asia and Pacific in the Policy Board of UN-REDD and has been closely following the negotiations of UNFCCC since 2009.
Ms. Sherpa on the importance of indigenous knowledge:
“Recognition and protection of Indigenous traditional and customary practices and knowledge system that passed to new generations by indigenous women are the only door to mitigate and adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change.”
