About the event
Join WECAN International on September 24th for 'Women on the Frontlines of Climate Solutions’ to connect with a network of women leaders working for climate justice!
We know that we are in dire need of a paradigm shift and an upwelling of global action, if we want to take meaningful action on the climate crisis. It is critical that women worldwide are engaged in policy advocacy, on-the-ground projects, direct action, trainings, and movement building for global climate justice. Women have always been on the frontlines, now it is time for us to be recognized at the forefront of climate solutions.
During this event, WECAN International is honored to announce our Global Hubs; facilitate an in-depth conversation on our current programs, projects and campaigns (including Women for Forests from the Tongass to the Amazon to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indigenous Women’s Divestment Delegations, Women Speak Media and much more); share our goals for the upcoming UN climate talks; and uplift the story of women worldwide who are rising for climate justice.
WECAN International primarily focuses on work with women on the frontlines of climate change nationally and globally - in particular, Indigenous women, women of color, low-income women and underserved communities. We also believe that it essential to work with decision-makers, and thus, our network also engages with women at the highest levels of government and business.
In the face of the hottest temperatures ever recorded and the devastating impacts of environmental degradation, the solutions of women on the frontlines of climate change could not be more important.
This public event - hosted by WECAN International in parallel to the United Nations Climate Action Summit happening in New York City - is organized with the expressed purpose of ensuring that the vital stories and actions of grassroots women leaders are heard by the public, media and government representatives during ClimateWeek.
This event is free and open to the public, however due to security in this part of the city because of UN meetings, registration is required. Please register here!
Presentations and discussion will be facilitated by the WECAN Leadership Team, including Osprey Orielle Lake, Founder and Executive Director of WECAN International, and Katherine Quaid, WECAN International’s Communications Coordinator.
