My community is forest dependent with over 90% of the population made up of Farmers. The majority of them are women.

Ironically, women remain the poorest of them. While the men venture into cash crop for commerce, women go in for food crop production for their family (which generates little or no money)

Reasons for working in this topic, project or business:

  • The earthis a major determinant of power, policy and decision making
  • Women will end up being the most affected despit their very low contribution to environmental problem
  • Majority of the women exploit naturalresources sustainably while most men practice execive exploitation

Root causes of the problems in this field and main barriers:

  • Culture / tradition
  • Tribalism
  • Racism
  • Capitalism
  • Illitracy
  • Sterotype

What is needed to overcome barriers to implement solutions:

  • involve community radios
  • Support to girls who want to school
  • Complementing Statutory, common law and cultural/traditional regulations
  • Promote female who are heads of households

Specific needs and/or support requests:

  • Experience sharing from other communities
  • Trainig materials
  • Runing cost for the project
  • Daidatic materials to support yong girls especially at the primary level

Suggested best local solution for this topic:

  • Deconsruction and reconstruction of cultures and traditions that are repognant to natural justice, equity and good concience
  • Promote equality among humans
  • Capacitate communities through training and reinforcing education of the girl child
  • Involvement of traditional authorities in equality talks

Networking opportunities:

  • The project has a networking opportunity because young girls in schools will become peer educators to their friends back home
  • Chiefs will have to become ambasadors of human rights and will be given the opportunity to communicate with their collegues in other communities that have wiped bad cultural and trditional practices
