'Action for Environmental Education, Gender, and Sustainable Development Kivu' is based in Sud-Kivu Province in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The project is Promotion of Biomass Briquettes as an Energy Alternative to Deforestation in the Mountains of Kivu. This project has several advantages: -Fight against deforestation because 90 per cent of the population uses charcoal as fuel -Combat Climate Change -Allows Women to save the family budget, because the use of briquettes as fuel is cheaper -The Briquette biomass is less polluting, unlike firewood used by women in rural areas in the DRC which causes contamination and women respiratory infections due to fumes that enter the lungs. -The Project allows carbon sequestration through maintaining trees It stabilizes the production of oxygen by reducing GHG emissions
