Sheila Oparaocha has over eleven years of working experience in the gender and energy sector.  She holds the position of International Coordinator of the ENERGIA International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy.  While in this position, Ms Oparaocha leads a team of five consultants at the ENERGIA International Secretariat (IS) and the Regional Network Coordinators (RNCs) in Asia and Africa.  Under her leadership, the IS and RNCs manage a multi-country and multi-partner projects portfolio spanning 22 countries in Asia and Africa.  In keeping with ETC’s Quality Control Management, she is responsible for quality control, reporting and liaising with ENERGIA’s donors.  Ms Oparaocha provides technical support to the network’s activities on international policy advocacy, gender audits of energy policies, technical advice to energy projects, training of trainers and practitioners, research and case study development, network building and knowledge management.

Ms. Oparaocha on the power of women:

“We all need to work together to avert a disastrous climate crisis - especially through a transition to sustainable energy sources. But because of gender discrimination and inequality, women in many parts of the world are not included in decisions about climate change responses, and consequently suffer the most from droughts, flooding and devastation of their communities and livelihoods. ENERGIA works with governments and institutions to ensure that more women are engaged as active leaders and participants in sustainable energy initiatives that contribute to effective climate change solutions.”
