Hala Yousry is the head of Rural Sociology Department at the Desert Research Center in Egypt. She received her PhD in Rural Sociology from Cairo University.
Hala has conducted several research studies about rural and Bedouin societies. She was a member of the National Council for Women for ten years and worked as a trainer and facilitator for international and regional workshops.
She is the country focal point, North Africa representative and board member for the African Forum for Agriculture Advisory Service (AFAAS), part of the Global Forum of Rural Advisory Service (GFRAS).
Women and Climate Change are two of her main interests and she is currently a member in the Egyptian Forum for Sustainable Development as well as Women Major Group/UNEP.
In 2012, she was nominated from the UN Women to represent Egyptian and Arab women at RIO+20 and was then selected by all Women Major Group (WMG)/UNEP to present a speech in the plenary session.
