Sustainable livelihoods - women & construction - natural building materials for a low carbon future

Started by: Joce

Description:

I am researching on the use of natural building materials in Africa, Southern Africa in particular for the construction industry.

Reasons for working in this topic, project or business:

i am looking to identify skills needed green infrastructure development in order to encourage training in natural building techniques and create employment among women & youth as well as choosing building materials that are not harmful to our planet and people.

Root causes of the problems in this field and main barriers:

traditional building materials account to almost 40% of green house gas emissions.  choosing sustainable natural building materials will reduce GHG emissions.

What is needed to overcome barriers to implement solutions:

understanding the importance of building sustainable low environmental - impact homes.  Education and training on climate change, environmental impact and new job opportunities.

Specific needs and/or support requests:

Education and training on climate change, environmental impact and new job opportunities.

Suggested best local solution for this topic:

investing in researching new building materials and techniques for better housing, flood resistant, comfortable, mosquito protected dwellings

Networking opportunities:

yes, technology transfer exchange opportunities in triangular cooperation contexts.
