Organization: Idle No More SF Bay
City/Country: Richmond, California and across the Americas
I am in prayer today with other women, other elders, grandmothers, who have children and grandchildren and want a safe and clean and just world for the next seven generations to come. In Richmond, California and in the Bay Area, we are part of a refinery corridor that is dominated by five different big oil companies that pollute our communities, particularly indigenous and communities of color, and also link us to our indigenous sisters in the Tar Sands and in the Bakken Oil Fields of the midwest and in the South to our sisters in Central and South America. We organize four healing walks between the major refineries every spring for four months, march against fracking and work continuously for climate justice. We are scattered across the Americas today, on this 29th of September, however, we are connected deeply anyway. Today I am in prayer with sisters in California, with sisters in New York and across the Americas... all of us working in our own ways and in our own communities to take a stand against fossil fuels and toxic extreme extractive energy. We work together continuously to pray, take action and work in coalitions for a fossil-free future where there will be a sustainable, just system for all those alive now, human and plant and animals and all forms of life, and for the generations to come. Pictures of my message and some of our women-led healing walks and actions attached.
