City/Country: Hawaii, USA
My name is Michelle Garcia. I am the owner and president of Pure&True, an organic skin company (http://www.pureandtrue.com/pages/live-true). Pure&True was founded on the principle that an inspirational and indulgent beauty experience - while caring for the health and beauty of the Earth and its people - is not only possible, but essential. Since its inception in 2007, we have off-set the carbon that we use in our business operations and in the shipping of our goods by purchasing re-forestation and sustainable energy credits. In doing so, we can proudly say that our business operations are carbon-neutral. We proudly support Women for Women International, The Nature Conservancy, and Carbon Fund. Together, we are working to help protect and preserve our environment, and improve the lives of women and families around the world. I am also one of the 350Hawaii leaders, one of the groups that helped with the successful Divestment of the University of Hawaii. Today, on Global Women's Climate Justice Day of Action, I am adopting 100 acres of the Amazon rainforest, which in addition to preserving the biodiversity of the region, will sequester 1,000 metric tonnes of carbon annually. I share a photograph of myself holding my two children. They are my message and my inspiration. I stand for them, for all the children, and for all of life.
